In 1995, the Division of Engineering (DOE) was asked to
participate in a study to extend the California Aqueduct to Cherry Valley to supply project water to the San Gorgonio Pass
Water Agency. The study resulted in the construction of Phase I of the East Branch Extension . Phase I incorporated
existing facilities into a delivery system that limited the capacity for the Pass Water Agency to one-half of its annual Table A amount.
However, the new facilities constructed as part of Phase I were designed and built to convey a larger capacity to meet future demands.
Work is now underway for Phase II. Phase II will consist of approximately 6 miles of new large diameter pipeline,
a new pump station, reservoir and enlargement of the existing Crafton Hills Pump Station.
DWR held a public scoping meeting regarding the Phase II project on April 18, 2007 at the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District's office and
circulated a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for public review from August 1 through September 15, 2008. DWR also held a public meeting on
August 14, 2008 at the Yucipa Community Center during the review period for the Draft EIR. The Final EIR was certified and the project approved on
March 6, 2009.
